2020 has been a tough year for everyone, and right now between everything I feel so depleted. I devote so much time to running the Hisdoryan blog, writing the posts, producing the monthly newsletter, running the social media feeds, devising regular features… and right now I need that time and energy for other things in my life.
I thought long and hard about just going quiet and slowly slinking away, but that wouldn’t be fair to my followers and the great friends I have made through blogging. Blogging is a two way process, and it only works when people engage and read your stuff. And I’ve been lucky to meet so many amazing people and have so many amazing opportunities because of history blogging.
The way I feel right now, I don’t want to give up blogging completely. I’m going to use the next few months to have a good think about what the future holds for the Hisdoryan blog. At the moment, I feel like I might want to go back to my micro-blogging roots on Instagram and revisit my love for local history and church crawling… but we will see.
I’m still going to be around from time to time on social media because I can’t go without the various wonderful online communities I am lucky to be a part of, but I am hoping to find a better balance. And I have really come to love the writing process as part of blogging, so I hope to explore that more.
So yes, this blog will be full of broken links and old content for a while… but in a way I can’t wait for the next chapter.
